Dreams and Affirmations
The Growing into Greatness Newsletter
Happy Sunday Friends,
I hope everyone had a great weekend and is fired up and ready for the week. I am writing on the way home from Massachusetts. I was blessed to be the recipient of a fellowship from the Martha’s Vineyard Institute for Creative Writing and spent the week with a group of about 50 writers and poets. I will share more post travel but until then, I am sharing poems and affirmations that I hope will add a bit of hope and encouragement to your week.
Langston and Stevie in Concert
I dream a world
where humanity sways in unison to the sweet
sounds of a Stevie Wonder song as
hope floats on the sweet melodies of the harmonica
and dreams rest on the edge of a rainbow
I dream a world
where human kindness becomes the key to life and all hands
are extended to build a community table so big that poverty
and homelessness are consumed within its recesses
a world where mankind has a symbiotic relationship with
nature, and first do no harm is the pledge of allegiance that we
sing to the earth and every living thing thereon
I dream a world
where the only weapons of mass destruction are those that
destroy hate, greed, racism and the lies that the orchestra of
fear whispers into the ear of human consciousness
a world where the tears of black mothers don’t flow joyfully to
the sounds of “Isn’t (s)he lovely” at the birth of their sons and
daughters and overflow painfully with sirens blazing
I dream a world
where the poetry of Langston Hughes
and the sermons of Dr. King are no longer aspirations
but truths that ring melodiously in our ears with the
certainty of Stevie Wonder’s song Sign, Sealed, Delivered
In my dreams,
Stevie sings to the world - freedom from
discrimination is yours, freedom from poverty is yours
freedom from war is yours, freedom to celebrate the kaleidoscope
of colors that form the beautiful skin that you are in is finally yours
And dreams rise like ribbons in the sky as the harmonica plays.
Affirmations: Authentic Living
My words and deeds will align.
I will surround myself with people who align with my values.
When faced with difficult choices, I will choose the way of love.
Affirmations: Success in Business
Everything that I touch will prosper.
It is my season for purpose and prosperity.
A path will be created for me that leads to those that I can best serve.
Affirmations: Saftey and Protection
My life is in God’s hands. I believe that the universe will place me in the right places at the right time to avoid harm.
I will trust my instincts; if it doesn’t feel right, it isn’t right.
In the face of doubt, I will run towards the light.
Community Notes
